Coldplay was supposed to do it. Switchfoot almost did it. Bon Iver did it. And Owen just stole it.
Ghost Town from Owen is the best album I’ve heard this year.
Ghost Town is bittersweet. It feels like a perfect movie. It builds to a climax of hope and releases subtly back to reality. Nothing is out of place. All the odd musical moments feel like those small moments in life when you feel infinite (only for a second).
This album is good from opening track to closing track in the way Eat, Sleep, Repeat from Copeland is. No flaws, not even the drop of humor in ‘No Language’ at 32 seconds. Perfect.
{side note: ’An Animal’ might be some of the best lyrics Mike has ever written}
5/5!

First thoughts:
It’s funny. I’ve been waiting almost a couple of years to hear the song, ‘Vice Verses’ and it was recorded exactly how I first heard it, stripped down.
As for the album…I don’t see this being my favorite of the year like I figured. I figured it would easily steal the show in my soul. I figured I’d be playing this album from track 1 to track 12 with no hesitations!
It’s just…there are 4 tunes that do not fit on this album (2, 3, 6, 10). Those 4 are like good versions of songs that should’ve been on one of their first 3 albums. I’m sure I’ll get tricked into loving them. I mean, they raise great-great questions and truth, but I just wish they’d stop writing cheesy riffs haha.
Don’t get me wrong (8 of the 12 are great, and 4 of those 8 are Jon’s best song’s he’s ever made). I don’t want to name them. I don’t know why…I just don’t want to. All I can say is ‘Souvenirs’ made me come apart, like ‘Always’ does. And ‘Vice Verses’ is my favorite song ever recorded by anyone.
